About
The Santa Barbara Art Association is a 501(c)(3) organization. On February 14, 1952, Douglass Parshall and a group of about fifty artists met at his home in Montecito and formed the association. Parshall was the first president, Joseph Knowles the first vice president, Francois Martin the first secretary, and Standish Backus the first treasurer.
The association now counts more than 400 artists. Artist members are accepted at an in-person jury held twice a year. Applicants bring three original works and a $25 application fee. Annual dues are $50 for the fiscal year that runs from July 1 through June 30, paid by cash or check. Patron membership starts with a donation of at least $50. Patrons support the association and do not enter member-only shows. Lifetime members are recognized on the roll.
Gallery 113, at 1114 State Street in La Arcada, is the association gallery. Member exhibitions are also held at the Faulkner Gallery, 1919 State Street, the Voice Gallery, the Santa Barbara Tennis Club, and the Bronfman Family Jewish Community Center.
